India sends fresh aid to quake-hit Afghanistan, relief reaches Kabul via Chabahar

NEW DELHI : India said a fresh humanitarian aid to quake-hit Afghanistan has reached Kabul via the Chabahar Port. Afghanistan was struck by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake on August 31, claiming more than 2,000 and displacing 23,000 people.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in a post on X, said, “In continuation of India’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in the wake of recent earthquake, three container loads of supplies of relief material arrived in Kabul via Chabahar and were handed over to Afghan authorities.”

The consignment contains food items, water purifiers, protein powder, tin sheets, sleeping bags, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, gen sets, family tents, blankets, essential medicines and other medical supplies, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in the post.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in Afghanistan and said that India will provide “all possible humanitarian aid” to Afghanistan to deal with the humanitarian challenge that is being faced by the Afghans.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected,” said Mr. Modi in a message.
