India to sign LoI with Singapore for Green Digital Shipping Corridor

NEW DELHI : India set to enhance maritime collaboration with Singapore by exploring the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) for a Green Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC).

This initiative aims to integrate India’s maritime sector with the global shipping network through Singapore’s established maritime ecosystem.

The LoI is expected to be signed during Union Shipping Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal‘s visit to Singapore next week. Sonowal, Minister of Port, Shipping, and Waterways, will lead a delegation to the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) from March 24 to 28.

The event, hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), will bring together key maritime leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

“We are thinking of establishing a letter of intent with India as a start. It is something we are still working towards,” said Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of MPA. While the LoI is anticipated to be signed during SMW, final details are yet to be confirmed.

India is keen to export green fuels, including biofuels, to the region and share its digital expertise. The proposed GDSC will enhance sustainable maritime trade practices while strengthening connectivity between India and global markets.

The SMW will also host maritime ministers from Estonia, France, Portugal, Norway, and the Netherlands. India’s participation will be further highlighted through the ‘India Pavilion’ at the exhibition.

The pavilion will showcase major Indian maritime stakeholders, including the Indian Ports Association, Cochin Shipyard, Indian Maritime University, and various shipyards such as Swan Defence and Heavy Industries, Chowgule Shipyard, and L&T Shipyard.

This initiative is expected to foster stronger maritime ties between India and Singapore while promoting sustainable and digital advancements in the shipping industry.
