Indian Railways’ freight revenue increases by 11.12% in June 2024

NEW DELHI : In June 2024, Indian Railways earned Rs 14,798.11 crore from freight, marking an improvement of approximately 11.12% compared to Rs 13,316.81 crore in the same month last year, as per a statement from the Railway Board.

The originating freight loading for June 2024 reached 135.46 MT, up from 123.06 MT in June 2023, reflecting a 10.07% increase year-over-year.

Specifically, the railways recorded the following loadings for June 2024:
Coal: 60.27 MT
Imported coal: 8.82 MT
Iron ore: 15.07 MT
Pig iron and finished steel: 5.36 MT
Cement: 7.56 MT
Clinker: 5.28 MT
Foodgrain: 4.21 MT
Fertilizer: 5.30 MT
Mineral oil: 4.18 MT
Containers: 6.97 MT
Other goods: 10.06 MT

Indian Railways has been actively working to enhance the ease of doing business and service delivery at competitive prices under the mantra of ‘Hungry For Cargo’. The ministry attributes this significant achievement to a customer-centric approach, the efforts of business development units, and agile policy making.
