India’s First Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering launched for Vizhinjam Port
Adani Ports and BPCL sign landmark MoU at India Maritime Week 2025
MUMBAI: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have joined hands to launch India’s first ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering operations at Vizhinjam Port, Kerala — marking a major step toward sustainable and cleaner maritime transport, informs a communique.
The agreement, signed during India Maritime Week 2025, will transform Vizhinjam — India’s first transshipment hub — into a dedicated LNG refuelling hub for vessels along the East–West shipping corridor. The initiative aims to cut marine emissions and support global decarbonisation goals by promoting LNG as a cleaner alternative fuel for ships.
Mr. Ashwani Gupta, Whole Time Director & CEO, APSEZ, highlighted the milestone and said that the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to building green, future-ready ports. “Together, we’re not just fueling ships — we’re fueling India’s net-zero journey,” he stated.
With this milestone, India steps into the global LNG bunkering map, reinforcing its position as a key player in the transition to a greener and more efficient maritime economy.
