Isa LOGISTICS CEO welcomes Indian Ports Bill 2025 as a Game-Changer for Supply Chain competitiveness

MUMBAI: The passing of the Indian Ports Bill 2025 marks a defining moment for India’s maritime and logistics sector. Industry leaders are calling it a bold step toward creating world-class supply chain infrastructure that will fuel trade, growth, and competitiveness in the decades ahead.

Mr. Santosh Shetty, CEO of Isa Logistics Pvt Ltd, welcomed the Bill as a turning point for the sector.

“The Indian Ports Bill 2025 is more than just policy reform – it is a practical step toward building an efficient and future-ready logistics ecosystem. Transparent tariffs, faster clearances through a single-window system, and a predictable framework for port operations will reduce bottlenecks, cut costs, and make cargo movement smoother. Importantly, the focus on sustainability and digitalisation ensures that as our ports grow, they remain globally competitive and environmentally responsible,” said Mr. Shetty.

Replacing the colonial- era Indian Ports Act of 1908, the new legislation introduces sweeping reforms such as the creation of the Maritime State Development Council for stronger Centre–State coordination and State Maritime Boards for uniform governance across ports. These measures come at a time when India’s maritime sector has seen remarkable growth, with cargo handling rising from 581 million tonnes in FY2015 to 855 million tonnes in FY2025.

The Bill also brings a strong push for technology-led efficiency through Maritime Single Window systems and advanced vessel traffic management. With ship turnaround times already halved to 48 hours – a global benchmark – the reforms are expected to unlock even greater efficiencies, vital for India’s trade ambitions.

By aligning infrastructure development with global environmental standards and embedding disaster preparedness systems, the legislation also ensures that growth is both resilient and sustainable – key to realizing the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

“By enabling transparent, technology-driven, and sustainable port operations, the Indian Ports Bill 2025 will accelerate India’s journey toward becoming a global supply chain powerhouse’’ Mr. Shetty added
