JNPA achieves record-breaking container throughput, sets new benchmarks in maritime trade

MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever annual container throughput of 8.17 million TEUs (MTEUs) in FY 2025–26, surpassing the previous year’s throughput of 7.30 MTEUs and registering a robust growth of 11.94%.

Sustaining this strong growth trajectory, JNPA also set a new record in monthly performance by handling 7,47,060 TEUs in March 2026, exceeding its earlier peak of 7,37,682 TEUs recorded in January 2026. This achievement underscores the port’s consistent operational efficiency and its ability to scale capacity in response to growing trade demands.

The record-breaking performance has been driven by enhanced terminal productivity, streamlined cargo handling processes, and improved turnaround times. Strategic infrastructure upgrades, deeper stakeholder collaboration, and increased adoption of digital technologies have further strengthened operational capabilities across the port ecosystem.

JNPA’s continued focus on multimodal connectivity has also played a crucial role in this success. Seamless integration with rail and road networks, along with the operationalization of the Dedicated Freight Corridor, has enabled faster evacuation of cargo and improved hinterland connectivity, making the port a preferred gateway for EXIM trade.

Additionally, the port’s emphasis on sustainability and smart port initiatives—including digitization, automation, and environmentally responsible practices—has contributed to improved efficiency while aligning with global standards for green port operations.

Commenting on the achievement, officials highlighted that this milestone reflects the collective efforts of terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics partners, and all stakeholders who have contributed to strengthening India’s maritime logistics chain.
