JNPA hosts Nepal Consulate delegation to strengthen bilateral trade & maritime cooperation

MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) had the privilege of hosting a high-level delegation from the Consulate General of Nepal, led by Consul General Mr. Jhakka Prasad Acharya, accompanied by three officials from the Consulate, during a strategic visit aimed at strengthening bilateral trade ties and maritime cooperation between India and Nepal.

The delegation was warmly received by Shri Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson, JNPA, along with senior officials of the port. During the interaction, the visiting delegates were provided with a comprehensive presentation on JNPA’s world-class port infrastructure, operational excellence, cargo handling capabilities, and its pivotal role in facilitating India’s international trade.

The delegation was also briefed on the upcoming Vadhvan Port project, one of India’s most ambitious port infrastructure developments, envisioned to further enhance the nation’s maritime capacity, logistics efficiency, and global trade competitiveness. Discussions highlighted the immense opportunities the project is expected to create for regional trade integration and connectivity.

As part of the visit, the Nepalese delegation undertook an extensive guided tour of the port premises, gaining first-hand exposure to JNPA’s advanced container terminals, streamlined cargo operations, digital initiatives, and modern maritime infrastructure. The visit offered valuable insights into the port’s operational ecosystem and its contribution towards strengthening supply chain efficiency.

The interaction focused on exploring avenues to enhance bilateral trade between India and Nepal through improved logistics connectivity, efficient cargo movement, and greater maritime collaboration. Both sides acknowledged the importance of ports and multimodal infrastructure in promoting regional economic growth and facilitating seamless trade access for landlocked neighboring countries such as Nepal.

JNPA reiterated its commitment to fostering strong international partnerships, supporting regional trade development, and contributing towards India’s vision of becoming a leading global maritime and logistics hub.

The visit marks another significant step in deepening cooperation between India and Nepal and reflects JNPA’s continued efforts to strengthen global engagement, regional connectivity, and sustainable trade partnerships.
