JNPA’s Performance Soars to New Records—7.3 million TEUs handled in FY 2024-25, the highest ever

MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) – India’s Best Performing Port, scaled new heights in FY 2024-25, achieving a record-breaking 7.3 million TEUs in container throughput, reflecting a year of exceptional progress with a growth of 13.55% compared to the previous Financial Year.

Emphasising JNPA’s forward-thinking strategies during the stakeholders’ meeting which was followed by celebration, Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, JNPA, and CMD, VPPL stated, “JNPA’s record handling of 7.3 million TEUs in FY 2024-25 reflects its evolution as a model port, setting benchmarks in efficiency, sustainability, and global competitiveness. The numbers reflect more than just volume; they speak of the hard work put in across terminals, the trust of our trade partners, and the seamless coordination that keeps India’s gateway port running.

As a frontrunner in port-led development, JNPA’s terminal operators continue to integrate cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices, ensuring seamless trade facilitation.”

Highlights of FY 2024-2025:
● BMCT achieved record handling of 222,201 TEUs and 2.27 million TEUs in March 2025
and FY 2025, respectively, which is the highest ever container handling by any terminal.
● APMT once again retained a 2 million TEUs terminal position by handling 2.08 million
TEUs
● BMCT, APMT, and NSFT have recorded the highest throughputs of their year.
● NSDT achieved record handling of Cement & Steel, i.e 1.8 Million Tonnes and 0.45
Million Tonnes respectively
● BMCT started Phase-2 operations from 5th February 2025.
● The highest rail volume of 1,078,315 TEUs was handled, surpassing the previous volume
of 1,076,152 TEUs
● JJLTPL commenced operations for the Liquid Terminal at LB-3 & LB-4 from 05th Nov
2024
● Centralized Parking Plaza (CPP) achieved the highest ever handling of 1,05,850 TEUs in March 2025, surpassing the previous handling of 98,249 TEUs in March 2023.

The stakeholders’ meeting at JNPA brought together key players from the port and logistics ecosystem to celebrate this achievement. Attendees included JN Port’s terminal operators—BMCT, DP World, APMT, BPCL, NSFT, NSDT, and JJLTPL—along with representatives from trade bodies such as CSLA, MANSA, CFSAI, and BCBA. Beyond the celebration, the meeting provided a platform for exchanging insights, discussing innovative approaches, and outlining future strategies to enhance operational efficiency and promote sustainable growth.

Discussions today during the stakeholders’ meeting were about planning future strategies —how JNPA can build on this momentum and address the evolving needs of the sector.

About JNPA:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is one of the premier container-handling ports in India. Since its inception on May 26, 1989, JNPA has transformed from a bulk cargo terminal into the premier container port in the country.
Currently, JNPA operates five container terminals – NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT.
The Port also has a Shallow Water Berth for general cargo. A Liquid Cargo Terminal present at the JNPA Port is managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium and the additional liquid cargo terminal developed by JNPA will be operated by M/s JSW – JNPT Liquid Terminal Pvt. Ltd.
Additionally, the newly constructed coastal berth links other Indian ports and facilitates enhancing the traffic of coastal containers.
Nestled across 277 hectares of land, JNPA also operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, to boost export-oriented industries in India.
JNPA is also developing an all-weather, deep-draft, greenfield port at Vadhvan, the 13th Major Port of India in Maharashtra. It is poised to be among the top 10 ports globally and will be a 100% green port since its inception.
