Marport achieves another milestone with four new SSG cranes
ISTANBUL : Marport continues to provide added value to the Turkish economy with 4 new SSG cranes (Ship to Shore Gantry Crane), which were brought to the terminal with an investment of 60 million dollars within the scope of the 250 million dollar “Marport Modernization Project”.
Stating that Marport is among the terminals that handle the most container volume in Türkiye, Ozgur Kalelioglu, Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Services Group President, said: “With a capacity of 2.3 million TEU, Marport has a market share of 12 percent in Türkiye and 19 percent in the Marmara Region. Through our investments, we’ve made Marport capable of serving the world’s largest vessels. We have also broken new ground in Türkiye by bringing 4 new SSG cranes to our terminal. With the launch of the new SSG cranes, we became the first and only terminal in Türkiye to serve with 14 SSG cranes. Our new cranes, with their 25+1 horizontal reach capability, will serve mega vessels transporting in the world seas with maximum efficiency.”
Emphasizing that they were among the first to invest in container ports in Türkiye, Ozgur Kalelioglu, Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Services Group President, said: “The point we have reached today is the result of nearly 30 years of hard work. With Marport, whose total investment value exceeds 1 billion dollars, we have assumed a pioneering role in Türkiye’s domestic and foreign trade. We continue to contribute to the Turkish economy with our new investments.”
The new SSG cranes with 25+1 container horizontal reach capability will be able to provide smooth and uninterrupted services to the world’s largest container vessels thanks to their capacity, advanced technology equipment and handling speeds. With a lifting height of 54 meters under the spreader, an outreach length of 73 meters and a weight of approximately 1600 tons, the new SSG cranes have a hoist speed of 90 meters per minute when containers are full and 180 meters per minute when they are empty. The new SSG cranes with a trolley speed of 240 meters per minute provide maximum operational efficiency and significantly reduce occupational safety risks with advanced technology systems such as “Ship Profiling” and “Chassis Positioning”.
