NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways (MoRTH) has been taking several steps aimed at enhancing connectivity and slashing travel time across India. Another much-anticipated development in that direction is the 72 km highway running from Bengaluru to Mumbai. The Chitradurga-Davangere section of a new six-lane highway in Karnataka was recently inaugurated and has been met with enthusiasm. Connecting two key economic hubs, the highway promises to overhaul logistics networks and streamline cargo movement.

Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, took to social media on Monday to showcase stunning visuals of the newly unveiled stretch, hailing it as a ‘lifeline’ that binds the financial capital to the tech hub. Gadkari emphasized the transformative impact of this infrastructure marvel, touting it as a beacon of efficiency and sustainability.

The construction of this ambitious project is estimated to require an investment of nearly Rs 1,400 crores. To ensure longevity and minimize future maintenance costs, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) plans to implement sustainable techniques and materials, including the incorporation of plastic in bituminous concrete and milling material in service roads.

This initiative adds to the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster transportation infrastructure across the nation. Gadkari underscored that this project complements the previously announced plan to construct a highway between Nelamangala and Devihalli in Karnataka, which forms a crucial segment of National Highway-75. This initiative syncs with the broader strategy to bolster the efficiency and competitiveness of India’s logistics sector.

Beyond the immediate benefits of reduced travel time, the inauguration of this new highway is poised to stimulate economic growth in the regions of Chitradurga, Davangere, and North West Karnataka. The enhanced connectivity is expected to catalyze development, spur investment, and invigorate the real estate market in these areas.
