NMHC Lothal and German Maritime Museum sign MoU to strengthen maritime heritage collaboration

AHMEDABAD : The National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), Lothal, and the German Maritime Museum – Leibniz Institute of Maritime History, Bremerhaven, have exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the field of maritime heritage research and museum development. The MoU exchange took place in the august presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Hon’ble Federal Chancellor of Germany, Mr. Friedrich Merz, in Ahmedabad.

This strategic partnership marks an important milestone in international collaboration on maritime history and heritage. Under the MoU, both institutions will work together on joint research initiatives, expert interactions, academic and professional exchanges, workshops, and the sharing of archival and scholarly resources.

The collaboration is aimed at enriching the academic depth, global perspective, and curatorial excellence of the galleries and exhibitions at NMHC, Lothal. By leveraging the German Maritime Museum’s internationally recognised expertise and NMHC’s vision of showcasing India’s rich maritime legacy, the partnership is expected to contribute significantly to knowledge creation, capacity building, and best practices in maritime museology.

The MoU reflects the shared commitment of India and Germany to preserving, studying, and presenting maritime heritage, while fostering deeper cultural and academic ties between the two nations.
