NMPA achieves 100% solar power milestone, reinforcing Green Port leadership

MANGALURU : The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has achieved a landmark milestone by becoming a 100% solar-powered port, underscoring its strong commitment to sustainability and clean energy under its Green Port initiative.

Since the commissioning of its solar power projects in 2016–17, NMPA has generated a cumulative 57.96 million kWh of solar energy, significantly reducing its carbon footprint while enhancing energy self-sufficiency.

In the financial year 2025–26, the port recorded impressive sustainability gains, generating 56.5 lakh kWh of solar power. This has resulted in an estimated reduction of 4,800 tonnes of carbon emissions and substantial cost savings of approximately ₹3.5 crore in energy expenditure.

The transition to complete solar power highlights NMPA’s proactive approach toward adopting renewable energy solutions and aligns with India’s broader vision of promoting environmentally responsible port operations. The initiative not only contributes to reducing dependence on conventional energy sources but also sets a benchmark for other ports across the country.

By integrating green energy into its core operations, NMPA continues to strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable maritime infrastructure, paving the way for a cleaner and more energy-efficient future in the port sector.
