TOKYO : Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the launch of a new Green Strategy Department under its Product and Network division. The new department is staffed with employees who are specialists in the relevant business fields, the company said.

The company – the sixth largest container carrier in the world – says it has established four areas of priority: environment; social, governance; and operational excellence.

‘The newly created Green Strategy Department will drive ONE’s environmental sustainability endeavours through the close collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, building better synergies together,’ said ONE.

‘This new department will be designing and implementing strategies so that ONE continues to meet the relevant industrial and international standards at the same time as ensuring that ONE is at the forefront of green thinking in the shipping and logistics industry and ultimately become a lead player in the industry.’

As previously reported, in February, ONE announced it had successfully trialled biofuel to power the M/V MOL Experience containership. At the time, the company’s General Manager of Fleet Management, Takeshi Mishima, said the successful completion of the trial has confirmed that biofuel was one of the solutions to reduce greenhouse gase emissions. Biofuels are also expected to help the Singapore-headquartered shipping company meet its carbon reduction targets in 2030 and 2050.
