Paradip Port achieves historic milestone with record cargo handling of 156.45 MMT

PARADIP : Paradip Port has scripted a new chapter in its operational history by achieving an all-time high cargo handling of 156.45 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the financial year 2025–26. This remarkable performance surpasses its previous records and firmly places the port in the elite “155+ MMT Club”, reinforcing its position as a key driver of India’s maritime trade, emerging as the leading major port on the eastern coast of India.

Registering a year-on-year growth of 4.01%, the port has demonstrated resilience and operational excellence despite evolving global trade dynamics. With this achievement, Paradip Port continues to maintain its status as the No. 1 Major Port on India’s East Coast, playing a crucial role in handling bulk cargo, particularly coal, iron ore, and crude oil.

Paradip Port Authority Chairman P.L. Haranadh says, “Paradip port achieved record cargo handling of 156.45 Million Tons in the last financial year. This is the best-ever cargo handling record in the history of Paradeep… It has continued its no. 1 position… It is the best performing port… The port is transitioning to 100% mechanisation within two years, which will further reduce cargo handling costs and enhance environmental friendliness. Additionally, the Western Dock project is progressing rapidly… The logistics costs for exporters and importers will be reduced. The milestone reflects sustained improvements in port efficiency, including enhanced mechanization, faster vessel turnaround times, and streamlined logistics connectivity with hinterland regions. Strategic infrastructure upgrades, coupled with digital initiatives, have further strengthened cargo handling capabilities and service delivery.

In line with the Government of India’s maritime vision, Paradip Port is also accelerating its transition towards sustainability. Key initiatives such as renewable energy adoption, green port practices, and efforts to reduce carbon emissions are actively being pursued to transform the port into a green and future-ready maritime hub.
