NEW DELHI : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, met with Mr. René Piil Pedersen, Managing Director of A.P. Moller Singapore (Maersk Line), to discuss avenues for collaboration in maritime logistics and trade. The dialogue emphasized India’s evolving role as a key player in the global supply chain and the growing opportunities in the country’s maritime sector.

Shri Goyal said,” discussed the prospects of Indian-flagged vessels, catalysing our domestic ship-building capabilities and collaboration opportunities in financing and insurance for the Indian shipping industry.”

The discussions covered a range of topics, including:

  • Infrastructure Development: Leveraging India’s expanding port network and logistics hubs to enhance efficiency and reduce shipping costs.
  • Sustainability in Shipping: Exploring innovative solutions to reduce carbon footprints in maritime operations, aligned with global sustainability goals.
  • Policy Frameworks: Identifying ways to simplify regulations and encourage greater foreign investment in India’s logistics and maritime sectors.
  • Trade Connectivity: Enhancing India’s connectivity with international markets to boost exports and support economic growth.

Mr. Goyal highlighted India’s initiatives to modernize its port infrastructure and digitalize trade processes, aiming to position the country as a global logistics hub. Mr. Pedersen acknowledged the strategic importance of India in Maersk’s global operations and expressed commitment to strengthening ties through investment and innovation.

Both sides agreed on the need for continued collaboration to ensure robust and sustainable growth in the sector, benefiting not only India’s economy but also the global trade ecosystem.
