PM Modi’s visit to US focus on strengthening ties through QUAD Summit and key bilateral meetings
NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit the U.S. from Sept. 21-23, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. During the visit, Modi will attend a meeting of the Quad group comprising India, the United States, Japan and Australia, a statement from the ministry said.
Briefing the media on Mr. Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States from September 21-23, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Mr. Modi would hold separate meetings with U.S. President Joseph Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian PM Anthony Albanese in Wilmington, where he will arrive on Saturday (September 21, 2024) for the Quad Summit, a critical platform for cooperation between the four member countries—India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. The summit will focus on regional security, Indo-Pacific strategy, and the evolving dynamics of global diplomacy. The leaders were supposed to meet in India for this round but have agreed to meet in President Biden’s home state. In addition to geopolitical and security concerns, the summit will explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in areas like technology, infrastructure, and climate change.
A QUAD Reception is scheduled for later in the evening, providing a diplomatic networking platform for key officials and stakeholders. PM Modi will head to New York City later that night to continue his series of high-profile engagements.
And a number of bilateral meetings had been planned during his visit to New York on Sunday (September 22, 2024) and Monday (September 23, 2024). Next the highly anticipated QUAD Summit in Delaware, followed by a series of important engagements in New York City, including speaking at the Summit for Future, meetings with global CEOs, diaspora events, and bilateral discussions with world leaders.
The Prime Minister’s first event in New York will be a Diaspora Event from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, where he will address the Indian American community. The event is expected to reinforce the strong connection between India and its diaspora, which plays a vital role in fostering US-India relations.
In the afternoon, PM Modi is schedule to meet with American Business Leaders at his hotel, an important opportunity to strengthen economic ties and attract investment in key sectors like technology, energy, and manufacturing. Following the meeting, PM Modi will engage with global leaders in bilateral discussions that will continue until 10:00 PM.
On September 23rd, the Prime Minister will participate in the UN Summit for the Future, where he will deliver a brief speech. The summit will address the pressing global challenges of the future, including sustainable development, digital transformation, and global governance. PM Modi’s presence at the UN underscores India’s growing leadership role on the world stage, particularly in addressing climate change and sustainable economic growth.
In addition to the UN summit, Modi is expected to hold further bilateral meetings throughout the day and may participate in other events, which are yet to be confirmed. The final day of the visit will be dedicated to further bilateral discussions before the Prime Minister departs for India later that evening. These meetings will likely focus on fortifying India’s diplomatic and economic partnerships, with an emphasis on cooperation in key areas such as defense, trade, and technology.
