Poor quality fuel sees MSC vessel stall in the Pacific

Share This News Story:

LOS ANGELES : MSC has reported its 13,000TEU container ship MSC Ariane has suffered an engine failure due to poor quality fuel, which has caused the vessel to stop at sea, on 2 April, while en route from the Port of Xiamen, China to the Port of Los Angeles, US.

The Panama-flagged container vessel, deployed on 2M Alliance’s TP6/Pearl service, has been diverted, assisted by a tugboat with spare parts, back to Japan for repairs and is expected to reach the Port of Wakayama on 7 April.

MSC Ariane was anticipated to berth in Los Angeles on 24 April, but due to the incident and the congestion in the Los Angeles area, MSC expects a schedule adjustment to this original berthing plan.

The Swiss-based company noted it will communicate any updated information about the estimated arrival and berthing in Los Angeles.
