PSA Mumbai celebrating a historic milestone achievement, surpasses 2 million TEUs mark in 2023
MUMBAI : PSA Mumbai, located in Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in Maharashtra, one of the leading container terminals in India, is proud to announce that it handled over 2 million TEUs in 2023. The container volume growth was 30% year-on-year during this period. This significant milestone is a testament to the terminal’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
Due to its strategic location and world-class facilities, PSA Mumbai had a record year handling over 2,000 container rakes and docked over 834 ships. PSA Mumbai offers some of the best facilities and is well-equipped to handle large vessels. This achievement highlights PSA Mumbai’s pivotal role in contributing to the growth of the Indian logistics sector while maintaining the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and customer service.
To commemorate this significant milestone, PSA Mumbai hosted a grand celebration on 5th January 2024, attended by esteemed customers, government officials, and industry associations. The event offered an opportunity to express gratitude and strengthen relationships with vital stakeholders who have played a crucial role in the terminal’s success.
PSA Mumbai’s dedication to innovation and infrastructure improvement has been the driving force behind its exceptional performance. The terminal has invested substantially in state-of-the-art equipment, advanced digital systems, and training to optimise efficiency and productivity.
The terminal’s commitment to environmental sustainability is also reflected in its eco-friendly practices, such as the electrification of rubber-tired gantry cranes and the use of renewable energy sources. These measures have substantially reduced the terminal’s carbon footprint while enhancing its reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.
PSA Mumbai’s connectivity via major highways, rail networks, and a dedicated rail freight corridor has enabled efficient transportation to key markets in India, making it the country’s largest and premier container gateway. The terminal’s superior facilities, including a dedicated access route and one-kilometer continuous wharf length, can accommodate various container types, making it a popular choice for reefers and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) containers.
As the terminal continues to expand and innovate, PSA Mumbai is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the Indian logistics sector and contribute to the nation’s economic development. Phase 2 of PSA Mumbai is anticipated to be operational by the first quarter of 2025, making it India’s largest standalone container terminal, further enhancing its capacity and operational capabilities. This expansion will create new opportunities for the Export-Import (EXIM) community to leverage the new facilities and support the growth of the Indian logistics sector.
Mr. Vincent Ng, PSA’s Regional CEO of Middle East and South Asia, stated “With a staggering 30% year-over-year growth, PSA Mumbai joined an elite club of container terminal models in 2023 after handling 2 million TEU in a single year. In addition to its extraordinary expansion, PSA Mumbai has led the way in creative and ground-breaking sustainability projects.
