
SMP Kolkata records over 16 % growth in Cargo handling
KOLKATA : Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, reported a record cargo handling with a growth of 16.02 percent during the period of April to August 2025. The port handled a total of 28.236 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of cargo, an increased from the 24.337 MMT handled during the same period in 2024.
This impressive performance is a result of outstanding contributions from both its dock systems: Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) and Kolkata Dock System(KDS), Port Chairman Ratendra Raman said. HDC handled 20.625 MMT of cargo from April to August 2025, compared to 18.216 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a robust growth of 13.23 pc.
KDS (Kidderpore Dock System) demonstrated even more exceptional growth, handling 7.611 MMT of cargo during April-August 2025, a significant jump from 6.121 MMT in April-August 2024. This performance marks a high growth rate of 24.35 pc. “This achievement is a testament to the relentless commitment of our officers, employees, and stakeholders, whose collective efforts have powered SMPK’s journey of growth,” said Raman, Chairman, SMP Kolkata.
