MUMBAI: In a move to strengthening protections for Indian Seafarers, Representatives from Shivsena Navik Sena Union (SNSU) visited the Directorate General of Shipping to discuss key issues faced by the Seafarer maritime community.

Director General of Shipping chaired this session and highlighted critical challenges such as:

  • Abandonment of seafarers
  • Fraud and cheating cases by RPSL agencies
  • Non-affiliated MTIs misleading candidates
  • Illegal payments to RPSL companies for jobs
  • Supporting and increasing the number of women seafarers

DDG (Crew) Capt. Meena highlighted ongoing efforts to curb malpractices including proposals to increase RPSL bank guarantees, strengthen compliance, and move towards authentic digital sign-off and passport integration with Emigration & Form-1.

The delegation also expressed their commitment to conducting seminars and awareness programs for youth and seafarers.

DG Shipping continues to take proactive initiatives to ensure that Indian seafarers remain protected, empowered, and informed so that no seafarer falls into fraudulent traps.
