THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The charges for bringing in ships and goods to the Vizhinjam International Seaport have been announced. The rates are being determined after evaluating the GRD – Gross Registered Tonnage.

The usual charges levied at the ports include port dues, pilot charges (for bringing in the ships from outer seas to the ports) and berth hire charges for loading and unloading of goods. While trans-shipment charges for a single day ranges somewhere between 20,000-25,000 USD at the Colombo port, Vizhinjam is only charging 10,000 USD.

Vizhinjam Port is a deepwater seaport located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is strategically positioned on the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent, making it potentially advantageous for international maritime trade routes. The port is designed to accommodate large cargo vessels and is expected to serve as a transshipment hub, benefiting from its proximity to major international shipping lanes. Vizhinjam Port aims to boost economic growth in Kerala by enhancing trade connectivity and logistics efficiency, thereby contributing to the development of the region and the broader Indian economy.
