AGARTALA : Union Shipping, Ports, and Waterways Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said the Government is attempting to use waterways to connect Tripura with Kolkata, Paradip, and Visakhapatnam via Bangladesh. According to the minister, the Northeast has seen tremendous growth over the past ten years, and Tripura is no exception. Tripura is now connected by about 24 flights. Only a meter gauge railway operated till 2014; today, Tripura is connected by a wide gauge and about 30 express trains. Because of its pineapples, jackfruits, and other agricultural goods that have made a successful international debut, the state is currently in the spotlight.

We are deploying jetties in the Gomati River, which will enhance Tripura’s global connectivity under the direction of our PM Shri Narendra Modi using the Bay of Bengal. We are developing jetties that will connect to the Bay of Bengal, not just through Bangladesh but also linking Kolkata, Paradip, and Visakhapatnam.

Tripura is a fertile state capable of producing a variety of goods with high global market potential, and waterways connectivity will help leverage its strategic position, opening doors to a vast international market,” he added.
