Upsized 14,000 TEU container ship arrives at Port of Halifax
HALIFAX : The 14,000 TEU container ship ONE Stork is the first upsized EC5 vessel that has arrived at the Port of Halifax in Canada.
The boxship with 364 metres in length overall arrived at PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub on 26 April.
PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub terminal has a quay length of 800 metres at a depth of 16.5 metres, a terminal area of 320,000m², five super post-Panamax (SPPX) cranes and access to international shipping lanes.
Moreover, two additional SPPX cranes will arrive later this year along with new yard handling equipment.
Captain Allan Gray, president and CEO of Halifax Port Authority, commented, “PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub has the infrastructure, operational knowledge, and experience to efficiently handle vessels of this size. The upsizing of these vessels continues to solidify Halifax as Canada’s Ultra Atlantic Gateway.”
ONE is a member of THE Alliance which includes Hapag Lloyd, Ocean Network Express (ONE), Yang Ming, and Hyundai Merchant Marine.
“The upgrade to larger tonnage on our EC5 service will provide Hapag-Lloyd with increased opportunities to meet the expanding needs of our customer base,” said Jason Tock, Director of operations at Hapag-Lloyd Canada.
