Visakhapatnam Port breaks into Top 20 in World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index

VISAKHAPATNAM : Secretary of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority Sri T. Venu Gopal announced that the Port breaks into top 20 rankings in World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index. The Terminal Operator M/s. VCTPL has achieved this remarkable milestone by securing 18th place in the World Bank Container Port Performance Index (CPPI).

The CPPI focuses exclusively on quayside performance measuring the operational efficiency of how ports receive, and handle Container Ships. This measure is critically important for the customer to decide which port/terminal to choose over other options. Port efficiency and Ship Turnaround Time at the port of call are important metrics for operators.

The VCTPL has achieved the best KPI’s i.e., 27.5 moves per crane hour; TRT 21.4 hrs and Idle Time at berth 13%. This remarkable achievement reflects the collaborative & coordination efforts of the port with terminal operators of the port in serving the customers.

The container terminal is gateway port for Nepal bound containers and about 65+ container lines (main shipping lines + NVOCC). 8 regular vessel services – FME, IFX-2, MDM, CHS, CI7, CCG, IEX, CVK to East bound, West bound & Middle East destinations.

The overall performance of PPP operators is being measured and rewarded as per the MIV 2030 guidelines. The port proposes to reward VCTPL for this remarkable achievement.

All the Stakeholders and associated Government organisations like Railways, Customs and State Government have appreciated this remarkable and assured to extend the same support in the days to come to achieve more records including to improve the Performance Indicators of VPA. Chairperson, VPA has congratulated the Terminal Operator and Port Fraternity for tweeting the said achievement through Tweeter and also recognising the efficient services of VPA.

VPA is pleased to announce its impressive performance in cargo throughput for the fiscal year 2023-2024. VPA secured the 4th rank among all major ports in India and made a significant leap to 3rd place in the first two months of FY 2024-25, reflecting a 13.5% growth in cargo throughput. This accomplishment showcases VPA’s dedication to operational excellence and its pivotal role in India’s maritime industry.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has expressed its appreciation for Dr.M.Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority, for his leadership and efforts in achieving these milestones.
