VOCPA advances Green transition with Carbon Credit Initiative from renewable energy projects
TUTICORIN : V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), Tuticorin, is taking significant strides towards sustainable port operations by initiating carbon credit generation through five solar and wind energy projects. This forward-looking initiative reflects the port’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while embracing clean and renewable energy solutions.
As part of its green transformation journey, VOCPA aims to leverage these renewable energy projects to generate an estimated 19,483 carbon credits over the next 10 years. This is projected to unlock a substantial revenue potential of approximately ₹50 crore, creating long-term environmental and economic value.
The initiative underscores VOCPA’s strategic focus on sustainability, aligning with national and global climate goals. By integrating renewable energy into its operations and monetizing carbon savings, the port is setting a benchmark in environmentally responsible infrastructure development.
This move not only strengthens VOCPA’s position as a future-ready and eco-conscious port but also highlights its proactive role in supporting India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy. Through such innovative measures, the port continues to demonstrate leadership in driving green growth within the maritime sector.
