World Maritime Day Celebrations inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh

VISAKHAPATNAM : In a vibrant celebration of World Maritime Day across ports, maritime sectors, and seafaring communities in Andhra Pradesh, Shri Kinjarapu Rama Mohan Naidu, Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India, along with Shri Kalisetti Appalanaidu, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, and Dr. N. Reuben Paul, Chairman of the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India) (MNWB), inaugurated the festivities in Andhra Pradesh. This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future with Safety First,” underscores the critical importance of safety in the maritime industry.

During the inauguration, Hon’ble Shri. Kinjarapu Rama Mohan Naidu highlighted the invaluable contributions of Indian seafarers to global shipping. He praised the fishermen community from Srikakulam, known as “born seafarers,” for their exceptional skills and commendable records within international shipping companies.

Hon’ble Shri K. Appala Naidu emphasized the urgency of prioritizing safety for seafarers, especially in the current geopolitical climate where ships and crews face increased risks. He stated, “Seafarers are the backbone of global trade, and it is our collective responsibility to safeguard their interests, welfare, and safety.”

Dr. N. Reuben Paul elaborated on the initiatives of the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, noting that every year, the MNWB and its member organizations celebrate World Maritime Day by visiting seafarers aboard ships and distributing welfare kits and gifts. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to being a frontline organization for the welfare and safety of both Indian and international seafarers during their time in Indian ports.

On behalf of the Indian seafaring community, Shri Jaganmohan Naidu, Srikakulam Coordinator, expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Kinjarapu Rama Mohan Naidu for their ongoing support and encouragement towards the welfare of the seafaring community.

The World Maritime Day celebrations served as a significant recognition of the maritime community’s contributions and underscored the shared responsibility to ensure their safety and well-being.
