Logistics service providers urged to explore ‘India hub at Antwerp’ idea

CHENNAI : Mr. Luc Arnouts, vice-president international relations, Antwerp Port Authority, on Friday urged logistics service providers to explore the idea of an “India hub at the Port of Antwerp” which would enable Indian exporters make use of such a facility and emerge as reliable suppliers to their European customers.

At the virtual interaction titled “Translating the INDIA-EU Trade enhancement and Connectivity plan in to action”, on Friday, Antwerp Port Authority in partnership with the Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry shared insights and ideas on strengthening trade between the India-EU corridor with the , Europe’s leading economic actor, having an active role to play.

The interaction was organised against the backdrop of the India-EU leaders meeting held in May led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the heads of members’ states and EU representatives.

In his address, Mr. Arnouts emphasized the importance of “Just in Case” as against “Just in Time” as a more likely approach for supply chain managers to consider in today’s global trade disruption times. He specifically highlighted how Antwerp Port can present itself as the nearshoring venue for centralized stocking and distribution point for Indian maritime cargo exported across Europe and the UK, against the background of its excellent connectivity to markets and ample warehousing at attractive rates.

Ms. Elena Suarez, advisor international relations, Business Europe shared details of the importance of the business importance of India for the EU, discussion points of the India-EU leaders meeting and the latest update on the trade & investment agreements to follow.

Ms. Prerna Soni, vice president, , highlighted various Indian government initiatives to strengthen trade, investment and streamline logistics to make Indian exports globally competitive and attract flows.
