Bolloré Logistics taking part in Greater Bay Area freight delivery optimization project, China
HONG KONG : Bolloré Logistics Hong Kong and Shenzhen are taking part in an experimental sea-air transshipment initiative at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) logistics park. Located in Dongguan, a major industrial city in the Pearl River Delta region, the new logistics park aims to simplify cargo clearance processes, reduce pre-shipment and terminal costs, lower transportation risks and improve transport overall efficiency.
Through this initiative, the objective is to improve the global accessibility of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (GBA) Greater Bay Area over the next five years, and to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a key gateway to the region for air freight. With this new logistics park, service providers now have an additional channel to connect the GBA to the international airport, a convenient, high security and cost-effective option applying Hong Kong cargo reception model, for connecting GBA shipments transiting through Hong Kong.
Exports from the region by sea go through customs clearance, security screening, freight acceptance and ULD build within the logistics park and connect on aircraft in Hong Kong towards global destinations. For imports to the mainland, goods can be shipped directly from the HKIA restricted area, in full compliance with Hong Kong air cargo security regulations, to the Dongguan Logistics Park for processing and re-shipment by sea within the region.
During the first pilot phase, Bolloré Logistics organized two ULDs on 21 Nov 2022 via Qatar Airways from Hong Kong to Johannesburg and Luxembourg.
Goods to and from GBA thus benefit from Hong Kong’s international air network.
As a referenced service provider within the logistics park, and with the aim of supporting the growth of its customers in China, Bolloré Logistics is thus able to offer sea-air intermodal transshipment linking Hong Kong and several GBA cities.
