MSC tops schedule reliability rankings in August

GENEVA : Danish Maritime data analysis firm Sea-Intelligence has released a report about schedule reliability data of container carriers for January – August 2023.

In August 2023, global schedule reliability fell by -0.9 M/M to 63.2%. Except for the May increase, schedule reliability has been within 2% points since March 2023.

On a year-over-year level, schedule reliability was 17% points higher. The average LATE vessel arrivals delay increased by 0.07 days M/M to 4.67 days.

“Despite the M/M increase, the average delay for LATE vessel arrivals is still -1.23 days better off than at the same point last year,” noted CEO of Sea-Intelligence, Alan Murphy.

MSC was the most reliable top-14 carrier in August, with 70.9% schedule reliability, followed by Maersk and Hamburg Süd with 70%.

Also, CMA CGM was the only carrier with a 60%-70% schedule reliability. Eight of the other carriers had schedule reliability of 50%-60%, with HMM and Yang Ming falling short at 50% and 47.3%, respectively.

Only three of the top fourteen carriers increased M/M in August 2023, with OOCL having the biggest gain of 2.8% points. On a year-over-year level, all 14 carriers improved by double digits, with MSC improving by the most, 26.8% points.
