New Hybrid Cranes at LCB1 as ESCO continues to pave the way for sustainable supply chains in Thailand

BANGKOK : LCB Container Terminal 1 (LCB1), a joint venture between Eastern Sea Laem Chabang Terminal (ESCO), APM Terminals, and Bangkok Modern Terminals Ltd, is paving the way for sustainable supply chains in Thailand with a green initiative. Together with equipment manufacturer ZPMC, LCB1 is converting its container handling equipment from diesel rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to hybrid RTGs that are electrically powered via batteries.

The investment will convert 12 diesel RTGs to hybrid RTGs. Upon completion, the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million kilograms per year.

ESCO President Lee Siak Quee said, “This transition from diesel to hybrid RTGs is a testament of ESCO’s continuous efforts in curbing carbon emissions through electrification. We remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a greener world and driving sustainable supply chains.”

ESCO, a member of the PSA Group, has made strides incorporating green infrastructure and orchestrating sustainable supply chains. It added a fleet of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Reach Stackers to its fleet, and 300kwh Electric Vehicle chargers at the Lat Krabang Inland Container Depot (LICD), where 25% of its equipment are electrified. In June this year, ESCO also launched the Green Transport Lane service, a dedicated EV trucking route covering the 120km distance between Laem Chabang Port and LICD.
