Dynamic movement of 1st container rake from Durgapur, West Bengal to Benapole, Bangladesh
Allied ICD Services Ltd (AISL), in association with Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), P. D. Prasad & Sons Pvt. Ltd (CHA company) and Transecur (ECTS vendor), has successfully executed the first rake movement from Durgapur, West Bengal to Benapole, Bangladesh on January 19, 2021. This movement marks a historic moment in the trade as it is expected to provide relief to exporters who have been suffering due to congestion near Land Customs Stations, said a release.
Ms Anusree Sen, Deputy General Manager of Allied ICD Services, was present for the inaugural movement along with the entire team of ICD Durgapur and Customs officials. She said, “This movement by rake to Bangladesh has been long-awaited by the industry. Cross-border trade using road movement was causing delays of over 10-15 days due to road congestion and also the congestion at the border. This rake movement is both time- and cost-effective, and it will enhance logistics efficiency for exporters.”
In the inaugural movement, agri products in 60 x 20’ Side Open containers, with 25 tonnes of cargo in each container, were transported from CONCOR Terminal, Durgapur after the Customs clearance at ICD Durgapur by P. D. Prasad & Sons along with affixing ECTS seals of Transecur. Mr Vedkantha Sengupta, Manager-Operations at AISL, said, “We are proud to support the agri industry and the farmers as this is a new opportunity for them to expand with this new mode of movement. It is a privilege for us to be a part of this historic initiative. By using rail movement, cargo will reach its destination at a much faster time and we are expecting more such movements to take place in the near future.”
As part of ‘The PDP Group®’, Allied ICD Services Ltd and P. D. Prasad & Sons Pvt. Ltd have been providing integrated solutions to the trade. Both companies are AEO certified by Indian Customs and maintain a strong presence in the logistics industry, the release added.
