DAMMAM : The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has welcomed the launch of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)’s new Himalaya Express shipping service at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Jubail Commercial Port.
The service, with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEUs, connects the ports to 12 regional and international destinations, including Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Hamad, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Vizhinjam, Sines, Valencia, Gioia Tauro, Genoa, Barcelona, and Malaga.

The move is part of efforts to improve Mawani’s operational efficiency, support export activity, and enhance regional and international competitiveness. It aligns with the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services, which aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s role as a global logistics hub.

In April, the ports overseen by the Authority recorded a 13.61 per cent increase in container handling for March 2025, reaching 699,928 TEUs compared to 616,079 TEUs in the same period the previous year. Exported containers saw a significant rise of 31.82 per cent, totalling 280,341 TEUs compared to 212,672 TEUs in the same period last year, while imported containers grew by 7.78 per cent, reaching 281,216 TEUs compared to 260,912 TEUs.

That same month, Mawani signed an agreement with Sultan Logistics to establish a logistics park at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. Spanning 197,000 square metres, the new facility aims to enhance the port’s competitiveness, boost operational efficiency, and elevate the quality of logistics services provided.
