DG Shipping celebrated International Day of the Seafarer–Women’s Empowerment in Maritime Ratings

MUMBAI : The Directorate General of Shipping commends T S Rahaman for successfully rolling out the 4th batch under the Women in Rating Programme—a landmark initiative launched two years ago in collaboration with leading shipping companies to empower young women from rural India to pursue seafaring careers.

Through sustained outreach, training, and industry partnerships, the initiative has enabled over 80 women to join the maritime workforce, with scholarships amounting to ₹72 lakhs secured for deserving candidates.
