JNPA proudly showcasing India Globally, says Chairperson at 79th Independence Day Celebration

JNPA, YCMOU & BVG India Ltd to set up state-of-the-art Learning & Development Centre at JNPA

MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, India’s Largest Container Port, celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The event, held at the JNPA Administration building, was graced by Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairperson, JNPA and CMD, VPPL, as the chief guest. The event brought together Board Members, JNPA HoDs, officials, and employees to honour the nation’s freedom and rich heritage.

The event commenced with the Chief Guest receiving the Guard of Honour from the CISF commandant. The celebration was followed by the hoisting of the national flag by the Chief Guest, with the singing of the national anthem. The atmosphere was filled with patriotism as attendees paid tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.

Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairperson, JNPA and CMD, VPPL, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasising, “As we celebrate the spirit of Independence, JNPA takes pride in being India’s largest container port, proudly showcasing India globally through operational excellence and world-class services. With upcoming projects like Vadhvan Port, we are poised to further strengthen India’s maritime capabilities and expand our global reach.”

“We are committed to adopting green technologies, reducing our carbon footprint, and enhancing operational efficiency to set new benchmarks in environmentally responsible port operations. We will also place strong emphasis on skill development and creating awareness about the maritime sector through port visits, ensuring that India’s maritime capabilities grow while inspiring and preparing the next generation,” he added.

JNPA, YCMOU, and BVG India Ltd have joined hands to establish a state-of-the-art Learning & Development Centre at JNPA, marking a landmark initiative in India’s logistics skilling ecosystem. This facility will offer free, world-class residential and non-residential training for over 25,000 HMV/LMV drivers and support staff in five years, with certifications from RTO, ASDC, IRU and others, enabling global driver accreditation and job-readiness for opportunities in GCC, Europe, Japan, and India. This event witnessed the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of YCMOU, Prof. Shri Sajeev Sonawane.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) actively participated in the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, inspiring employees, stakeholders, and the port community to proudly display the National Flag at their homes and across the port premises. The event concluded with a sense of pride and unity, leaving everyone inspired to uphold the values of freedom and democracy.

About JNPA
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is one of the premier container-handling ports in India. Since its inception on May 26, 1989, JNPA has transformed from a bulk cargo terminal into the premier container port in the country.
Currently, JNPA operates five container terminals – NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT. The Port also has a Shallow Water Berth for general cargo. A Liquid Cargo Terminal present at the JNPA Port is managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium and the additional liquid cargo terminal developed by JNPA will be operated by M/s JSW – JNPT Liquid Terminal Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, the newly constructed coastal berth links other Indian ports and facilitates enhancing the traffic of coastal containers.
Nestled across 277 hectares of land, JNPA also operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, to boost export-oriented industries in India.

JNPA is also developing an all-weather, deep-draft, greenfield port at Vadhvan, the 13th Major Port of India in Maharashtra. It is poised to be among the top 10 ports globally and will be a 100% green port since its inception.
