Union Govt approves nod to 65 km Bhavnagar – Dholera railway line
BHAVNAGAR : With the rapid development of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), the Union Government has approved a new broad-gauge railway line to connect Bhavnagar with Dholera. The proposed railway line will cover an estimated distance of 65 km, and the related final location survey (FLS) for the project will begin soon.
During his recent visit to Bhavnagar, Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw personally reviewed the maps on-site and directed immediate action on the project. In a letter to Union Minister and Bhavnagar Lok Sabha MP Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya, Vaishnaw confirmed approval of the railway line and stated that orders for the FLS have been issued.
Bhavnagar Port is set to be developed as a multi-purpose port. While a railway line already exists up to the port, the new track will extend connectivity to the proposed container terminal. Rail access is considered vital for handling imports and exports from industries in Dholera SIR. The project has moved forward following representations by Union Ministers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Nimuben Bambhaniya, along with Bhavnagar West MLA and former cabinet minister Jitu Vaghanii.
