‘Seafarers Unity Day 2025’ celebrated in Mumbai; ADG Shipping highlights India’s Maritime Strength
MUMBAI : The ‘Seafarers Unity Day 2025′ function was held at the Indian Sailors Home Society, Mumbai, celebrating the dedication and resilience of India’s maritime workforce. The event witnessed the presence of Shri Sushil Mansing Khopde, IPS, Additional Director General of Shipping, as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Shri Khopde commended the pivotal role of Indian seafarers in propelling the nation’s maritime growth and upholding India’s reputation as a leading global provider of skilled maritime professionals. He lauded the continued efforts of seafarers’ unions in safeguarding the rights and welfare of the community, fostering unity, and promoting professional excellence within the industry.
Highlighting the Directorate General of Shipping’s initiatives, Shri Khopde spoke about ongoing measures to enhance welfare, safety, and career progression for Indian seafarers — including digital reforms for certification, streamlined grievance redressal systems, and international collaborations to expand employment opportunities.
The event also featured cultural performances and felicitations recognizing exemplary contributions by seafarers and maritime organizations. The celebration reaffirmed the collective spirit and unity of India’s maritime fraternity.
