India to launch first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel in Varanasi, marking major push for Green IWT
VARANASI : Varanasi is set to witness a historic moment in India’s maritime evolution as Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, will officially launch the commercial operation of the country’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel on 11 December 2025 at Namo Ghat.
The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards greener and more sustainable inland water transport. The hydrogen-powered vessel represents a breakthrough in clean maritime mobility, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmentally friendly alternatives across the inland waterways network.
