V.O. C Port floats tender for outer harbour development project under HAM

TUTICORIN : V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port Authority), Tuticorin, has reached a significant milestone with the floating of the tender for its ambitious Outer Harbour Development Project under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).

The landmark project envisages the development of two state-of-the-art deep-draft terminals, each with a 1,000-metre quay length and an 18-metre draft. Designed to accommodate next-generation large vessels, the terminals will substantially enhance the port’s cargo handling capacity and operational efficiency.

The Outer Harbour Development Project is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s global trade connectivity by enabling the handling of larger container and bulk vessels, reducing logistics costs, and improving turnaround times. The project also aligns with the Government of India’s vision of port-led development and the creation of future-ready maritime infrastructure.

Once completed, the new terminals will position VOC Port Authority as a key hub on the eastern coast, supporting regional economic growth, boosting exports and imports, and contributing to a resilient, efficient, and sustainable maritime ecosystem.

This milestone marks another decisive step towards modernizing India’s port infrastructure and reinforcing the country’s role in global supply chains.
