SCILAL signs MoU with Synergy Marine to strengthen maritime training and capability development
MUMBAI : Shipping Corporation of India Land & Assets Ltd. (SCILAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synergy Marine Pte. Ltd. to advance collaboration in maritime capability development and training. The partnership marks a significant step toward enhancing India’s pool of skilled seafarers in line with evolving global shipping standards.

Building on constructive engagements during India Maritime Week 2025, the MoU lays the foundation for a structured and future-ready training ecosystem. A key highlight of this collaboration is the launch of a Diploma in Nautical Studies (DNS) programme at the Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai, designed to equip cadets with the technical expertise and practical competencies required for modern ship operations.
The programme will focus on critical areas such as navigation, ship handling, maritime safety, environmental compliance, and international regulatory frameworks including IMO conventions. It will combine classroom learning with advanced simulator-based training and onboard exposure, ensuring a balanced blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world experience.
Under the agreement, Synergy Marine will bring its global operational expertise into the training framework through curriculum inputs, mentorship, and potential onboard training opportunities across its managed fleet. This industry-academia linkage is expected to significantly improve cadet employability and readiness for international maritime careers.
SCILAL, leveraging its strong legacy and infrastructure, will facilitate the development of training modules and support capacity-building initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing world-class maritime professionals.
This partnership aligns with India’s broader vision of becoming a global maritime hub and supports national initiatives aimed at strengthening the maritime workforce. By fostering skill development and international collaboration, SCILAL and Synergy Marine aim to contribute meaningfully to the growth, safety, and sustainability of the global shipping industry.
