Capt. P. C. Meena marks Day of the Seafarer 2026 at Pipavav Port, Honours Maritime Professionals

PIPAVAV: Reinforcing the significance of seafarers in sustaining global trade, Capt. P. C. Meena, Nautical Surveyor, Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Kandla, commemorated Day of the Seafarer 2026 while conducting an International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code compliance audit at Pipavav Port.

During the visit, Capt. Meena interacted with the port’s marine personnel and seafarers, appreciating their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment towards ensuring safe, secure and efficient maritime operations. He acknowledged the indispensable role played by seafarers and port workers in maintaining the seamless flow of international trade despite operating under demanding and often challenging conditions.

The occasion echoed the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Day of the Seafarer 2026 theme, “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks.” The theme highlights the immense responsibility shouldered by seafarers, who continue to keep global supply chains moving while navigating operational, environmental and security challenges across the world’s oceans.

The interaction also served as a reminder of the crucial partnership between regulatory authorities, port administrations and maritime professionals in upholding international safety and security standards while fostering a resilient and sustainable maritime ecosystem.

The Directorate General of Shipping reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening maritime safety, security and the welfare of seafarers through continued regulatory oversight, capacity building and industry engagement. The Directorate also recognised the invaluable contribution of India’s seafaring community to the nation’s maritime growth and the uninterrupted movement of global commerce.
