VISAKHAPATNAM : The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved another significant operational milestone, handling a record 71 bauxite rakes during July 2026, surpassing its previous monthly best of 69 rakes recorded in March 2026.
The achievement marks a further improvement in VPA’s bulk cargo handling performance and underscores the Port’s continued focus on operational efficiency, cargo evacuation and seamless rail connectivity.
The handling of 71 bauxite rakes in a single month represents a strong performance in the movement of mineral cargo through the port. With bulk commodities such as bauxite requiring coordinated ship, yard, rail and cargo-handling operations, efficient rake handling is an important indicator of the Port’s ability to manage large-volume cargo flows without compromising operational reliability.
The latest record reflects the coordinated efforts of VPA’s various operational teams, including officers, technical personnel, cargo-handling staff and other stakeholders involved in the movement and evacuation of bulk cargo.
The improved performance also highlights the importance of rail-based cargo evacuation in supporting efficient port operations. Timely placement, loading and evacuation of rakes can help optimise yard utilisation, reduce cargo dwell time and ensure smoother movement between the port and the hinterland.
