GRSE bags ₹45-crore electric ferry contract from West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation

KOLKATA : Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on Monday said it has received an order from the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd to procure two 100-passenger capacity electric ferries valued at ₹45.02 crore.

In a regulatory filing, GRSE said the order is to be completed within 18 months from the contract signing date.

The order underscores the company’s commitment to the ‘Make in India‘ initiative, and its expanding role in the commercial and green technology shipbuilding sector, GRSE said.

The ferries will be constructed to meet the growing demand for sustainable tourism and public transport in the state, it said.

The announcement comes a day after Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for five major expansion projects of GRSE, involving a total investment of nearly ₹3,500 crore to boost shipbuilding and defence manufacturing capabilities in West Bengal.
