AARHUS: DP World Marine Solutions has announced the naming of its new vessel, “DP World London,” a dual-fuel methanol-powered container ship, during a special naming ceremony held in Aarhus, Denmark.
The introduction of the new vessel marks another important step in DP World’s ongoing investment in building more interconnected, resilient and flexible supply chains, while supporting the transition towards lower-carbon and more sustainable maritime transportation.
Aarhus, a city shaped by trade, the sea and a strong outward-looking maritime heritage, provided a fitting location for the naming ceremony. For generations, the city has connected Danish businesses and communities with international markets.
The ceremony brought together DP World executives, customers, business partners, employees, the vessel’s captain and crew, the Mayor of Aarhus and the vessel’s godmother, celebrating an important maritime tradition in the city where DP World’s Shipping Solutions journey first began.
DP World’s Shipping Solutions business was founded in Aarhus in 1977 as Unifeeder and has since grown into a leading feeder and shortsea shipping operator serving customers across Europe and other international markets. Today, the business forms an important part of DP World’s integrated Marine Services portfolio.
The decision to name DP World London in Aarhus reflects the company’s strong connection with its heritage while highlighting its continued commitment to fleet modernisation and the adoption of more sustainable maritime technologies.

He highlighted the company’s commitment to remaining close to customers, delivering on its commitments, navigating volatile market conditions with confidence and developing practical solutions in a rapidly changing environment. He added that the new dual-fuel vessel represents both the company’s maritime legacy and its vision for the future.

He noted that the methanol dual-fuel vessel demonstrates DP World’s continued investment in practical innovation to provide customers with reliable, flexible and lower-emission shipping services. The vessel will also strengthen DP World’s integrated logistics network across ports, terminals, marine services, inland logistics and freight forwarding, supporting seamless supply chain connectivity and the uninterrupted movement of global trade.
The DP World London is a 1,250 TEU container vessel built in China and delivered in April 2026. The vessel is owned by Germany-based Elbdeich Reederei and operated by DP World’s Shipping Solutions business.
Flying the Portuguese flag, the vessel will operate on DP World’s North Europe service, further strengthening connectivity across the region.
Measuring 148 metres in length, DP World London is equipped with a modern five-cylinder main engine and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology, designed to help reduce emissions and support compliance with international environmental standards.
The vessel successfully completed its first methanol bunkering operation in Rotterdam on 25 June 2026, with Unibarge serving as the bunkering partner and Methanex supplying the methanol.
The addition of DP World London to the fleet underlines DP World’s commitment to modernising its maritime operations and investing in innovative vessel technologies that support cleaner and more sustainable shipping, while enhancing the reliability, resilience and connectivity of global supply chains.
