HAMBURG: Chowgule and Company’s Shipbuilding Division has announced the signing of a contract with Green Maritime Infrastructure (GMI) for the construction of two hydrogen-powered cargo vessels at the Chowgule Shipyard in Goa.
The two vessels, each with a capacity of 3,000 DWT, will form part of GMI’s growing zero-emission fleet and represent an important step towards the development of sustainable coastal shipping powered by advanced hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
The contract was signed during SMM Hamburg 2026, one of the world’s leading maritime trade fairs, bringing together industry partners committed to advancing cleaner and more sustainable solutions for the future of maritime transportation.
The project highlights the growing focus of the global maritime industry on alternative fuels and zero-emission technologies. By integrating hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion, the vessels are expected to contribute towards reducing emissions from coastal cargo transportation and supporting the transition towards greener shipping operations.
The contract also marks a significant milestone for Chowgule Shipyard, Goa, reinforcing its capabilities in the construction of next-generation vessels and its commitment to supporting the evolving requirements of sustainable maritime transportation.
