TUTICORIN: Shri Vijay Kumar (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), chaired a review meeting of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to assess the port’s operational performance, infrastructure development and the progress of key ongoing and upcoming projects.
The review meeting focused on strengthening the port’s operational efficiency, expanding cargo-handling capacity and ensuring timely implementation of infrastructure projects. Detailed discussions were held on the port’s performance across key operational parameters, capacity augmentation initiatives and measures aimed at improving cargo-handling and logistics efficiency.
Shri Vijay Kumar emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to accelerate the implementation of critical projects and further strengthen the port’s infrastructure to meet the evolving requirements of trade and industry. The review also highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies, improving operational processes and enhancing connectivity to support seamless cargo movement.
The meeting also assessed the progress of various development initiatives being undertaken at VOCPA, with emphasis on timely execution, efficient utilisation of existing assets and creation of additional capacity to cater to future cargo growth.
The Secretary underscored the importance of developing VOCPA as a modern, efficient and sustainable maritime gateway, capable of supporting India’s growing trade and strengthening the country’s position in the global maritime and logistics ecosystem.
The review forms part of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ continued efforts to monitor the performance of major ports, accelerate infrastructure development and ensure that port-led development remains aligned with the broader vision of a modern, sustainable and globally competitive maritime sector.
