China shipbuilding indexes continue to rise

According to the statistics released by China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), China’s shipbuilding output for January to July 2021 was 24.18m dwt, an increase of 20.7% year on year, while the 45.22m dwt volume of newly received orders surged 223.2%.

For the first seven months of this year, China’s shipbuilding output, orderbook on hand and newly received orders all maintained growth

At the end of July, Chinese shipyards’ orderbook on hand was 89.67m dwt, an increase of 18.6% year on year.

Shipbuilding export volume was 22.65m dwt, an increase of 22.4% year on year, while newly received export shipbuilding orders were 40.31m dwt, a substantial growth of 219.4%. Export orders on hand were 79.18m dwt as the end of July, up 13.7%.

Shipbuilding export volume, new orders for export and export orders on hand accounted for 93.7%, 89.1% and 88.3% of national volume respectively.

As at the end of July, China’s shipbuilding output, newly received orders and orders on hand respectively accounted for 46.1%, 52% and 46% of the global shipbuilding market share.

Fifteen major Chinese ship repair companies completed a repairing volume of 1,874 vessels for the first seven months, a slightl increase of 2.7% year on year.
