DPA welcomes maiden call of MV ESL Shekou at Kandla International Container Terminal
GANDHIDHAM : Deendayal Port Authority marked a significant milestone in its journey towards enhancing global maritime connectivity with the maiden call of the vessel MV ESL Shekou under Emirates Shipping Line’s ECSX Service at Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT) on June 18, 2026.
The inaugural call of the vessel underscores the growing importance of Kandla as a strategic gateway for international trade and highlights the increasing confidence of global shipping lines in the port’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
With a Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) of 66,280 MT and a Length Overall (LOA) of 276 metres, MV ESL Shekou is among the larger container vessels to call at the port, further reinforcing Kandla’s ability to handle modern, high-capacity container ships efficiently.
The introduction of the ECSX Service is expected to enhance service connectivity, improve supply chain efficiency, and provide exporters and importers with greater access to key international markets.
The maiden call also aligns with Deendayal Port Authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen multimodal logistics infrastructure, expand container handling capabilities, and position Kandla as a preferred hub for maritime trade.
Officials noted that the addition of new shipping services at Kandla International Container Terminal will contribute to faster cargo movement, improved trade facilitation, and increased competitiveness for businesses across the hinterland.
The successful commencement of operations under the ECSX Service reflects the collaborative efforts of port stakeholders, terminal operators, shipping lines, and logistics partners in driving maritime growth and supporting India’s vision of becoming a leading global maritime nation.
