MUMBAI : Express Global Logistics (EXG), member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India, has secured a contract to handle 45,000 FRT of coaches for a state owned corporation. The volume includes 182 coaches and four Driving Power Car (DPC) with dimensions of 20.3 x 2.95 x 4 m and weight ranging from 36 ton to 80 ton.

The cargo was exported to Sri Lanka under a MoU between the Indian and the Sri Lankan Government. India and Sri Lanka signed a memorandum of understanding for “co-operation on economic projects” in 2019. The development and operation of the container terminal was one of the projects in the MoU. India-Sri Lanka cooperation in the transport sector continues to expand with the arrival of 10 state-of-the-art railway passenger coaches at the Colombo Port. Sri Lanka is looking to extend its rail networks and increase the current capacities for which India has been a successful partner for decades.

A spokesperson for EXG informed: “EXG has successfully handled the first lot of 10 coaches, which were moved by rail from a state owned manufacturing facility to Chennai port for final assembly and packing, ready for Colombo. Our seasoned operations and clearance team managed approvals from various government agencies, port authorities and vessel agents in order to execute the project.”

EXG leveraged in-house hydraulic axles to support under hook delivery without leaving the hook idle. Thus we were able to meet the challenging timelines of loading the vessels. Our crew of 22+ personnel worked hard to synchronize the three day operation.

EXG’s asset management, heavy hauling and engineering teams coordinated to create detailed plans 20+ days in advance of the coaches being moved. This allowed EXG to fabricate the spreaders & saddle to flawlessly execute the project. EXG is committed to moving the remaining coaches and DMUs in the future with close coordination with our client and stakeholders. EXG is proud to have started 2021 delivering on a project that is not only prestigious for the company but also for our country.”
