Maharashtra CM holds talks with Maersk CEO on Green Maritime infrastructure and Vadhavan Port development
DAVOS : Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, held high-level discussions with Mr Vincent Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of global shipping major Maersk, on advancing circular economy–driven maritime infrastructure and strengthening sustainable port-led development in the state. The dialogue focused particularly on the development of Vadhavan Port as a next-generation, environmentally responsible maritime gateway.
The interaction explored avenues for collaboration between the Government of Maharashtra and global shipping stakeholders to promote green port operations, low-emission logistics solutions, and technology-enabled infrastructure aligned with global sustainability benchmarks. Both sides deliberated on integrating circular economy principles into port planning, including energy efficiency, alternative fuels, optimized cargo handling systems, and reduced environmental footprint across port operations.
A key highlight of the discussions was positioning the upcoming Vadhavan Port as a world-class hub for India’s maritime trade, capable of handling future cargo growth while adhering to the highest standards of sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency. The port is envisaged as a strategic asset that will enhance India’s global trade competitiveness, strengthen supply chain connectivity, and support long-term economic growth.
Shri Devendra Fadnavis emphasized Maharashtra’s commitment to developing climate-resilient, future-ready infrastructure and attracting global partnerships to accelerate port-led industrialization and logistics development. Mr Vincent Clerc shared Maersk’s perspective on sustainable shipping, decarbonization of maritime supply chains, and the role of collaborative ecosystems in achieving net-zero ambitions across the maritime sector.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared vision of leveraging global expertise, innovation, and investment to transform Vadhavan Port into a green, digitally enabled port, reinforcing India’s emergence as a key node in global maritime trade and logistics networks.
