MoPSW celebrates the 6lst National Maritime Day
NEW DELHI : Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways celebrated the 61st National Maritime Day on Friday, 5th April at Commonwealth Stadium, Akshardham Sports Complex, New Delhi with a Sports meet organised by Director General of Shipping under MoPSW to celebrate the spirit of our maritime community. Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary, MoPSW addressed occasion underscoring the importance of our maritime heritage and it’s role in our nation’s prosperity.
MoPSW celebrates the 6lst National Maritime Day in commemoration of the sailing of the first Indian flag vessel “SS Loyalty” on her maiden voyage from Mumbai to London in the year 1919. This event marks the entry of India into the world of modern international shipping.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways bestows the prestigious Sagar Samman Awards on individuals who have dedicated their lives to the welfare and protection of the maritime sector, propelling the nation to new heights. National Maritime Day underscores the pivotal role of maritime trade and commerce in the nation’s development, while also inspiring the younger generation to consider careers in this dynamic sector, shaping the future of a progressive and evolving nation.
In FY 2023-24, major ports saw substantial investment exceeding Rs. 12,500 Cr through capital infusion & sanctioning and awarding of Public Private Partnerships. This investment is poised to enhance infrastructure, boost efficiency, drive economic growth in the maritime sector.
